Understanding Sharkey County Releases
A Sharkey County release is a physical custody event. The key question is whether the person left the sheriff's custody for the community or moved to another custodian. Bond, release on recognizance, time served, dismissal, or sentence completion may result in community release. A transfer to the Mississippi Department of Corrections, another county, a hospital, federal authorities, or immigration custody does not. The official Sharkey County page identifies the sheriff as county jailor and keeper of the jail docket. It does not publish a live roster, release archive, or separate detention-center database.
The agency chain matters. A local release entry can record the time the sheriff ended custody, but the court docket explains the order or case outcome. MDOC keeps the state sentence record after a county transfer. The Bureau of Prisons covers sentenced federal prisoners, while ICE's locator is built for present immigration detention. Each record answers a narrow question. Combining them prevents a transfer from being mislabeled as freedom and keeps a court order date separate from the time staff completed the release.
- Release
- A custodian's recorded end of physical custody, either to the community or another authority.
- Discharge
- The end of a sentence or supervision term, not merely departure from a jail building.
- Time served
- Completion of the custodial part ordered in a case; other terms may remain.
- Detainer
- A request or hold that may send a person to another agency after local custody ends.
Sharkey County Release Types
Labels must be read literally. “Bond” means the person left pretrial detention subject to the court's terms, not that the charge ended. “Dismissed” describes a case action but does not rule out another charge or hold. Parole follows incarceration and places the person under parole authority. Probation comes from a court order and may begin with or without a jail term. A transfer changes who holds the person. Sharkey release research is most accurate when the release reason, destination, and later status appear together.
| Record label | What it means | Next place to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or recognizance | Pretrial community release under court terms | Sheriff release entry and court docket |
| Time served | Custodial term identified by the order is satisfied | Release entry and signed judgment |
| Parole or ERS | Institutional custody ends while state supervision continues | MDOC Parolees Search and Community Corrections |
| Sentence complete | A stated sentence ends, subject to other cases or holds | Discharge certificate and court record |
| Transfer | Custody moves to MDOC or another agency | Receiving agency's locator or records office |
| Dismissal | A charge is ended by court action | Court order plus physical release record |
Sharkey Release Record Fields
The sheriff has not posted a public field dictionary, so no field should be promised. A narrow request can still identify the categories needed to prove the event. Tie the request to the person's full legal name, known alias, approximate booking date, and a booking or case number when available. Ask for an existing jail-docket or booking record, not a custom summary. The result is strongest when it identifies both the releasing custodian and any destination.
| Requested field | What it can show |
|---|---|
| Booking number | Connects the person to one custody episode |
| Booking date and time | Marks the start of that recorded episode |
| Charges as booked | Shows the allegations entered by the holding agency |
| Holding agency and court | Identifies the custodian and related legal forum |
| Release date and time | Records when the custodian processed the event |
| Release reason or code | Distinguishes bond, time served, discharge, or transfer |
| Destination agency | Shows whether another authority received the person |
Those are requested categories, not a guarantee that every field exists. A court order can be entered before staff complete physical release. A court dismissal also may leave another hold in place. Keep “court order or disposition date” and “jail release date and time” as separate facts. For older matters, ask the sheriff about the retention schedule because Sharkey County publishes no online retention period.
Request Sharkey County Release Records
Address a county request to the Sharkey County Sheriff's Office. The office lists Sheriff Herbert Ceaser at 120 Locust Street, Rolling Fork, MS 39159, phone 662-873-1500, fax 662-873-6135, and hceaser@sharkeycountyms.com. No formal jail-record form, portal, records hours, or fee schedule is published. Call first to confirm whether email is accepted for a formal request and where inspection occurs.
- Identify the full name, approximate arrest or booking date, and any booking or case number.
- Request the jail-docket, booking, and release entry for that exact person and time range.
- Name the fields needed, including release time, release code, and destination or receiving agency.
- Ask for electronic copies, an itemized estimate before chargeable work, and the lowest-cost available format.
- Request a statutory citation for each withheld part and production of any nonexempt portion after redaction.
Ask whether the record shows community release or transfer. A move to MDOC or another custodian is not release from all custody.
Mississippi Code § 25-61-5 provides the basic access and timing rules. If an agency has no adopted procedure, access is due within one working day. An adopted procedure cannot set production or denial later than seven working days. When production is not possible by day seven, the agency must explain the delay in writing with particularity; without mutual agreement, production is due no later than fourteen working days. Actual-cost search, review, duplication, mailing, and redaction charges may apply. These limits are not a promise that each request will take the full period.
Mississippi Release Record Limits
The Mississippi Public Records Act, § 25-61-1 and following, is the starting point for inspection and copies. It does not make every field public without exception. Confidential identifiers, juvenile material, medical facts, security-sensitive details, investigative content, and sealed or expunged records can be withheld or redacted under applicable law. The Mississippi Ethics Commission provides guidance and a complaint path, but the initial request must go to the agency that keeps the record.
Mississippi Code § 99-19-71 provides expungement routes for qualifying cases and arrests. Eligibility depends on the case, offense, completion of terms, and statutory exclusions. Expungement is not proof of the physical release date. A court restriction also does not authorize rebuilding removed information from cached pages. When a public record cannot be located, the sound conclusion is “not found in this system,” not “released.”
Find Sharkey County Released Inmates
There is no single Sharkey County released inmate database. Start with the custody episode, then follow each transfer. Use positive agency evidence whenever possible. A missing roster name, blank MDOC field, or absent VINELink result can reflect a spelling mismatch, delayed feed, nonparticipation, restricted file, transfer, or ended public visibility. None proves release by itself.
- Gather the full legal name, alias, approximate booking date, arresting agency, and case number.
- Call the Sharkey County Sheriff for a local booking. Ask whether the person remains held, entered the community, or transferred.
- If the sheriff reports an MDOC transfer or state sentence, search MDOC by name or MDOC number and read the status and date labels exactly.
- Check the proper court for the legal event. Justice Court handles initial felony appearances and other listed matters; Circuit Court preserves later felony filings and judgments.
- Use MS SAVIN/VINELink for participating custody data and future alerts, then confirm any event with the custodian.
- Use BOP for a federal sentence and ICE ODLS for present immigration detention.
- When online tools fail, request the existing release entry for a narrow date range.
The no-feed finding is especially important for same-day inquiries. Sharkey County does not publish an official 24-hour or 72-hour release list. The Jail Releases: 24 Hours process therefore begins with a time-bounded sheriff request, while the Projected Release process separates future state calculations from completed events.
Search MDOC Sharkey Release Records
The Mississippi Department of Corrections home page has separate Inmate Search and Parolees Search tools. Both accept a first name, last name, or MDOC ID. Inmate Search concerns people represented in the state corrections system. Parolees Search concerns current parole supervision. A person booked and released only on a Sharkey County matter may never appear in either tool.
The public detail can include an MDOC number, personal identifiers, entry date, assigned location, sentence rows, a photograph, and the exact field “Tentative Release Date.” A facility name is not a release. A future date is a current calculation, not a guarantee. A blank date also proves nothing. A fully discharged person may no longer appear in the active inmate or parolee tools, so MDOC Records and a discharge certificate become the stronger sources.
The live interface can be recognized in the official MDOC search page shown below.
The separate search boxes reinforce the difference between state imprisonment and supervision after physical release.
Sharkey Release Records and Courts
Sharkey Justice Court conducts jail sessions three times each week and handles initial felony appearances, DUI matters, and county ordinance cases. That schedule can explain when an early bond or custody order may be considered. It is not a fixed release calendar. Circuit Court has later felony jurisdiction after indictment, and the Circuit Clerk keeps criminal filings and judgments. Pair the court action with the sheriff's event time because legal authority and physical release are different facts.
Sharkey County's court page identifies the local assignments and contacts.
For Circuit Court files, the Ninth Circuit MEC instance expressly lists Sharkey County. Public-access registration may be needed, and restricted, sealed, juvenile, older paper-only, or expunged documents may not appear online.
Sharkey Release Records After Tornado
The March 24, 2023 tornado significantly damaged Sharkey County government offices and caused temporary operating arrangements. Current sheriff and court pages again use 120 Locust Street, but older directions and office details may be stale. Call before visiting to request a release record, collect property, or locate the right entrance. This access warning does not mean the jail closed, and it says nothing about a named person's custody.
The county's tornado recovery information documents the disruption. It supports a practical call-ahead rule without inventing hours or a secure jail entrance that the sheriff has not published.
Sharkey Release Alerts and Transfers
Mississippi SAVIN uses VINELink for agency-fed custody information and notifications. Search a specific person, verify the listed custodian and identifiers, and follow the live registration prompts. Supported notices may include release, transfer, escape, or other events. A county registration may carry forward when a person enters MDOC through the Registration Link feature. That helps distinguish a transfer from a community release, but every alert still needs confirmation with the named agency.
Federal and immigration systems are separate. The BOP Inmate Locator generally covers federal prisoners from 1982 forward and can show a release date or non-BOP status. A person no longer in BOP custody might still face federal supervision or another hold. ICE ODLS is intended to find present immigration detention, not to prove a past Sharkey release. A county clearance followed by federal pickup must be recorded as two custody events.
Correcting Sharkey Release Records
Send each error to the office that created it. A wrong sheriff release time or destination belongs with the Sharkey County Sheriff. A wrong judgment or disposition belongs with the issuing clerk and court. An MDOC sentence calculation belongs with MDOC Records. An agency cannot rewrite a court order it did not issue, and a clerk cannot correct a jail-management timestamp. Save the booking number, case number, and MDOC number separately so records for similar names are not merged.
After release, a missing identification document follows a different route through the Mississippi Driver Service Bureau. That service can address state identification needs but does not change a custody record. Keeping the identity-document and records-correction paths apart saves time and directs supporting proof to the office with authority.
Registration After Sharkey County Release
The Mississippi Sex Offender Registry is a limited statutory system, not a general released-inmate list. Its public information applies only to people who have a registration duty. The registry specifically addresses incarcerated releases and states that a person subject to registration must obtain the prescribed local sheriff registration receipt; that receipt is valid for three business days. The rule creates a post-release trace for a narrow group but does not prove return to Sharkey County.
Registry presence proves registration status, not the date the sheriff released someone. Absence says nothing about an ordinary custody history. The registry also warns that information changes quickly and is not all independently verified. Use the source only for its defined purpose, and send record corrections through the registry's own correction channel.
Compare Sharkey Release Search Systems
Each lookup has a defined scope. Choose it based on the last known custodian, then verify an apparent release with the record that documents the event.
| System | Best use | Key limit |
|---|---|---|
| Sharkey sheriff jail docket | Local booking release or transfer | No public online roster or release feed |
| Sharkey court or MEC | Case outcome, judgment, or order | Does not prove the physical release time |
| MDOC searches and records | State sentence, parole, tentative date, or discharge | Not a county-only arrest archive |
| VINELink/MS SAVIN | Participating custody data and future alerts | Agency feeds can lag or omit historical events |
| BOP locator | Sentenced federal custody and many releases | Does not establish Sharkey County status |
| ICE ODLS | Present immigration detention | Not a historical release archive |
Sharkey County Release Facilities
Four facility paths cover the custodians relevant to Sharkey County research. The local jail function is administered by the sheriff. Issaquena County Correctional Facility is a neighboring historical lead whose current role must be confirmed. MDOC houses state offenders across its system rather than at a current Sharkey County institution. BOP facilities are nationwide and federal only.
- Sharkey County Jail: request the sheriff's jail-docket release or transfer entry.
- Issaquena County Correctional Facility: confirm current custody directly before relying on historical regional arrangements.
- Mississippi Department of Corrections: use the statewide offender record and MDOC Records for a state sentence.
- Federal Bureau of Prisons: use BOP for sentenced federal custody and release information.
